Stepping Up & Making Every Step Count
Disability affects more people than many of us realize. More than 61 million adults in the U.S. (that’s 1 in 4 of us!) report having at least one disability. These are our friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors who can face barriers to things many of us get to do every day without even thinking about them.
That’s what makes the work supported by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation so important. They help fund innovative assistive technology designed to give people with disabilities greater independence and the ability to participate more fully in everyday life.
And sometimes, the things that make a huge difference can seem incredibly simple.
Imagine a stroke survivor who loves to bake but can no longer hold her utensils or steadily pour from a measuring cup. Someone who can’t use his hands but wants to use a computer to connect with friends or apply for a job. Or someone who is blind and simply wants to safely walk to their destination.
Assistive technology can help make those things possible.
CPARF supports technology and services that help people with mobility, communication, vision, hearing, learning, and other disabilities — as well as people living with chronic conditions and aging adults. Ultimately, it’s about giving people more independence, more opportunities, and the ability to keep doing the things that make life theirs.
